The Best of East and West

At Kortright Animal Hospital we offer medical acupuncture for all of our patients. Animal acupuncture is available for both rehabilitation of patients after a surgery or injury, and as part of many western treatments of diseases. Animal acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment for easing pain and comforting your loved one while they heal.

APchartMedical acupuncture

is the use of evidence-based acupuncture treatments to help patients recover from injury and illness.  Acupuncture is the application of slim, sterile, thread-like needles to specific points, leading to improved comfort and function of specific muscles, organs and nerves.

The use of physical medicine modalities, including acupuncture, can lead to improved comfort and quicker return to function.

Animal acupuncture can be used for:

  • Muscular spasm or pain
  • Soft tissue injury
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Arthritis
  • Weakness
  • Incontinence
  • Post-operative recovery
  • Orthopedic injury such as hip dysplasia, knee injuries, shoulder pain, elbow dysplasia and many others

Keep in mind; acupuncture for animals can also help with illness, such as:

  • Kidney disease
  • Nausea or decreased appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Cancer
  • Eye issues such as dry eye, glaucoma and others
  • Auto-immune disease

Acupuncture is remarkably well tolerated, by even sensitive dogs and cats (even rabbits, guinea pigs, hedgehogs and other creatures tolerate it well!).  Once they learn they are coming in for acupuncture, you’ll notice them getting excited every time you pull into the parking lot!

If you have additional questions about acupuncture, or if you’re wondering if your pet may benefit, please don’t hesitate to give us a call or request an appointment now.
